Mertelu Village is located on the north side of Gunungkidul, precisely in Kapanewon Gedangsari. Mertelu Tourism Village carries the concept of "green village" tourism which offers natural tourism in the hills and forests whose beauty is still maintained. From here you can enjoy views of the cities of Yogyakarta and Klaten from above. The location of the village at an altitude makes the air cool and fresh.Motivated by the development of tourism in the southern area of Gunungkidul which is dominated by beach and cave tourism, the people of Mertelu Village formed a Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) to become a tourist destination. The self-sufficient community formed a tourist village in the hope of increasing tourist visits to the northern area of Gunungkidul and then having an impact on improving the communitys economy. One of the tourist attractions of Mertelu Village is the artificial flying fox tourist attraction which is claimed to be the longest in Indonesia and the second longest in Southeast Asia. Tourists can glide on a 625 m long flying fox with speeds reaching 80 km/hour. Tourists can enjoy the sensation of gliding at a height with beautiful natural views. The security standards used are international standards. When visiting Mertelu Village, tourists can also shop for batik as souvenirs. Many local village people work as batik makers and produce beautiful written and stamped batik products. The typical motif of Gedangsari Batik is the walang motif. Apart from that, the community also really maintains traditions and culture so that they remain sustainable and become a cultural tourist attraction.Source: https://wisata.gunungkidulkab.go.id/desa-wisata-mertelu.
